EMTs & Paramedics respond to calls for service both emergency and non-emergency to provide efficient, compassionate care to their patients. The EMS team member will be dispatched by PTT communication device and respond promptly to calls for service via ambulance.

Upon arrival the EMS team member shall perform patient assessments and administer Basic Life Support or Advanced Life Support treatments to the patient as needed, then initiate transport to the designated or most appropriate facility in a safe manner. When not responding to calls for service, the EMS team member shall perform tasks such as ensuring all equipment is clean and ready for use, taking part in station upkeep, etc.

For the Paramedic, when working on an ambulance with an EMT partner, the Paramedic shall act as the “team leader” in ensuring care is delivered at the highest levels. However, both team members are equally essential in ensuring the best care and experience is delivered to our clients.

Routine tasks include patient assessments, bandaging, bleeding control, airway monitoring, suctioning, operation of ventilators, cardiac monitoring, IV initiation, thorough patient care documentation and reporting, interaction with hospital/ nursing home staff and patient families, clear concise communication with dispatch, operation of emergency vehicles and equipment, etc.

Essential duties of our EMS team members will include but are not limited to:

  • Receiving calls from a dispatcher using a PTT device or integrated GPS system and acknowledging/responding to assigned calls in a timely fashion.
  • Ensuring familiarity with map reading and the operation of GPS units for navigation.
  • Operating emergency vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws, regulations and ordinances and with due regard for safety when responding with and without lights and sirens.
  • EMTs are expected to practice at the BLS level and Paramedic are expected to practice at the BLS & ALS level as outlined by the Ohio Scope of Practice for the EMT and the GMVEMSC protocol including patient assessments, obtaining vital signs, assisting with administration and administration of approved medications, splinting, wound care, immobilization, and patient packaging and transport, pharmacology, IV/IO initiation, cardiac monitoring etc, as applicable by certification level.
  • EMS Team Members must be able to lift / carry patients as needed and operate a medical stretcher, stair chairs, backboards, etc for transport to and from the ambulance and within medical facilities.
  • EMS Team Members should be able to communicate professional with patients, patient family, and all staff encountered throughout course of transports. Appropriate communication via phone or radio with receiving hospitals may be necessary when transporting to specialty facilities and emergency departments as well as.
  • EMS Team Members will be required to maintain and submit thorough documentation in regards to patient care and care administered while the patient was under his or her care.
  • EMS Team Members are required to be proactive in maintaining their certifications require to practice at their current certification level. This includes continuing education requirements as well as ensuring their CPR card is always up to date as a condition of employment. (Continuing education opportunities provided in-house.)

Requirements for consideration include:

  • Must be of 18 years of age or above.
  • Must hold an active certification as an EMT or Paramedic in the State of Ohio.
  • Must hold an active AHA or ASHI issued CPR card for healthcare providers.
  • Must hold an active AHA or ASHI issued ACLS card for Paramedics.
  • Must hold a current state issued drivers license.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a pre-hire lift evaluation, lifting a cot with a simulated weight of 175lbs.
  • Must pass Greater Miami Valley EMS Council protocol testing annually.
  • Must provide proof of all required certifications.

All prospective EMS employees will be required to undergo mandatory pre-employment screening to be offered a position.

  • EMT: $10-12
  • AEMT: $12-14
  • Paramedic: $14-16

Pay rates for positions vary based on experience, certifications, etc. Pay is subject to raises after completing an initial probationary period with Ohio Medical Transport. Other benefits offered include opportunity for year wage increases, run incentives, 401k, Aflac, life insurance and more!
